Hybrid Catamaran u4 Marine Reaches Construction Milestone
Turkish shipbuilder U4 Marine has announced a construction milestone for its 32-meter cruising catamaran, with the hull and superstructure already completed. The yacht is currently under construction at the shipyard's Antalya facility and is scheduled for May 2026 delivery.
This is a custom-built catamaran that, for user-friendly cruising, will be equipped with a 40.5-meter rotating swivel mast and a reefing boom controlled by a push-button system. The boat will also feature a hybrid propulsion system, including an “innovative” 250kWh battery pack, which can be recharged by a regenerative system or by the main engine (using a 70m2 solar panel system), which uses energy through the propellers during sailing. The ship's exterior design and naval architecture will be by New Zealand studio Greg Young Design.
The ship's accommodation is spread over four cabins, one double and two VIP cabins, all with en-suite facilities. The forward cockpit area is designed as a “personal resort” and is located in the East Cabin on the main deck. Meanwhile, on the flybridge, the cockpit can be seen integrated with the lounge area, complete with Jacuzzi, fully equipped bar, retractable coffee table, dining table and kebab facilities.
The ship also has several outdoor dining and lounge spaces, and a formal indoor dining area can be accessed from the stern through a set of sliding stained glass doors. Other highlights include balconies and swim platforms located on either side of the aft portion of the vessel.
Construction of the project began early last year with a “revolutionary injection process” designed by Rivoyre Ingenierie. The technique involves three separate infusions of the hull and superstructure to ensure the optimum proportion of resin fibers, resulting in a more durable carbon fiber frame. It is estimated that the catamaran will be able to sail at speeds in excess of 20 knots.
