Lagoon Yachts Brand Background
Brand Origins and History
Lagoon is one of the world's leading manufacturers of sailing catamarans, based in La Rochelle, south-west France. Founded in 1984, initially as part of CNB (Construction Navale Bordeaux), part of the Bénéteau Group, Lagoon specialises in the design and construction of high-performance catamarans for sailing professionals. Lagoon quickly gained international recognition for its craftsmanship and performance at sea.
In the early years of the brand, Lagoon built custom boats for several America's Cup teams, an experience that helped the brand gain experience in structural design and performance optimisation. In 1996, Lagoon launched the Lagoon 410, the first catamaran designed for the private sailing lifestyle, signalling a shift in strategy from professional sailing to the wider yachting market.
The brand's production facilities
Lagoon's main production sites are located in Belleville-sur-Vie and La Rochelle, France. The two sites are divided between those responsible for construction and preliminary assembly, and those responsible for final assembly and sea trials. This division of labour not only optimises the manufacturing process, but also guarantees the quality of every Lagoon yacht that leaves the factory.
It is worth noting that Lagoon shares some of its industrial resources with its parent company, the Bénéteau Group, which gives it a clear advantage in terms of production facilities, R&D investment and quality control. Every Lagoon catamaran passes rigorous tests before leaving the factory to ensure its stability and safety in all sea conditions.
Brand Design and Innovation
Lagoon's design team has long worked with VPLP (Van Peteghem-Lauriot Prévost), a leading catamaran design office, whose experience in racing boat design has given Lagoon leading hydrodynamic and spatial capabilities in the catamaran market.
In terms of interior design, Lagoon has been working with the renowned Italian design firm Nauta Design in recent years to introduce more modern living concepts to the yacht. Whether it is the layout of the cabins or the choice of materials, Lagoon always insists on practicality and aesthetics. The spacious saloon, open galley and flexible seating areas reflect a meticulous understanding of the user's lifestyle.
Product Range Overview
Lagoon's current main product line consists of 40, 46, 51, 55, 65, 77 and other size segments, covering a wide range of needs from family sailing to luxury cruising.
The Lagoon 40 and 46 are the most popular catamarans in the entry level market, suitable for short family cruises or offshore holidays.
The Lagoon 51 and 55 are the most popular catamarans in the entry level market for short family trips or offshore holidays, while the Lagoon 51 and 55 are significantly more spacious and well-equipped for medium to long distance sailing, and are often used for high-end charters.
The Lagoon Sixty 5 and Seventy 7 are positioned as the flagships of the brand, offering almost superyacht-like customisation in terms of space and configuration, and are often used for long international voyages, circumnavigations or private luxury use.
Yacht Styles
Lagoon's design style emphasises ‘comfort, openness and freedom’. Lagoon catamarans offer a wider deck and smoother sailing experience than traditional monohulls. The natural stability provided by the catamaran structure eliminates the need for stabilising fins when mooring and reduces the feeling of swaying, which greatly enhances the comfort of the boat.
Lagoon focuses on the introduction of natural light, with large portholes and skylights as its signature elements. Inside the cabin, the line of movement is reasonable, and the furniture is simple and modern, which makes it easy for users to maintain a good experience during a long period of time.
Yacht Scenarios
Lagoon's products are widely used for family sailing, island adventures, round-the-world trips and commercial charters. The spaciousness and sailing stability of the catamarans are particularly suited to family users sailing with children, and are ideal for extended periods of time at sea.
In recent years, with the rise of telecommuting and digital nomadic lifestyles, more and more Lagoon owners are choosing to use their yachts as ‘mobile homes at sea’ for extended periods of time in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and South East Asia. This change in lifestyle has led to a greater emphasis on energy self-sufficiency (e.g., solar panels, desalination equipment) and communication security in Lagoon's equipment selection.
Sustainability
Lagoon takes sustainability very seriously. In recent years, the brand has introduced environmentally friendly materials and low-emission technologies into many of its processes. For example, some of its vessels are now made from recyclable hull materials and equipped with electric propulsion systems, and Lagoon has partnered with environmental organisations on ‘green sailing’ initiatives to encourage users to reduce their carbon footprint while sailing.
In addition, Lagoon has strengthened the management of energy and water resources in the production process, and has pushed the shipyard to achieve ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.
Customer Experience and Brand Culture
Lagoon is not just about selling yachts, it is also about building a community of owners. Each year, the brand organises Lagoon Escapade events in several regions around the world, inviting Lagoon owners to participate in sailing parties and competitions. These events not only promote user interaction, but also strengthen the sense of belonging to the Lagoon brand.
At the service level, Lagoon has a global distribution and maintenance network that provides customised configuration advice, training courses and long-term after-sales support. Whether you are a novice owner or a seasoned sailor, you are guaranteed professional and continuous service.
